Melvan's Excellent Adventures

Welcome to Melvan's Excellent Adventures. Through this site we hope that family and friends can keep up to date with our overseas trip. We leave on Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 bound for Thailand. Then we are off to London to live and work for about 6 months before setting off to travel Europe. We plan to post photos and information from our adventures. Hopefully this will avoid us having to send out those group emails that everyone loves. Please leave comments if you wish or email us.

We Made it to London

Hi All,

Just wanted to quickly update you all on what has been happening over past week or so. We left Thailand early last Wednesday morning headed for London and after numerous delays eventually arrived about 15 hours later. We were met at the airport by Tam (Mel's sister) and her friend Shani who were driving us to our new house. Despite having no idea where any of us were going Tam and Shani did a great job of battling the London traffic and getting us to our place where we met Ben and Meagan (our Aussie freinds who we are living with). Ben cooked up a storm for breakfast which was much needed by the time we got there.

No rest for the wicked and in an attempt to catch up with our new time zone re resisted the need for sleep and went off to purchase a few things for the house. This was our intro to shopping over here - and what an intro it was. We went to a store called Argos, which any of you who have lived here will have shopped at. At this store you flick through a massive catalogue, pick what you want, take the code number to a counter and get your gear. Unusual for us to shop this way but it was quite cheap and QUICK!!!

Since then we have had a pretty busy time acquainting ourselves with our new home and local area. It is a really nice apartment and we are just a few minutes walk from the Docklands which is probably best compared to Melbourne Docklands and South Bank. Meagan have been great in giving us the local run down and putting up with us sorting ourselves out.

Saturday we all went to the Geelong V Port game at the oval. It was a really fun day despite the quality of the footy. Tam laid what is now known as the greatest tackle ever on the oval on a guy trying to steal our ball and Evan kicked the ball into a ladies face (accidently) which wasn't terribly popular. The streakers were another highlight letting everything hang out. We met up with Flemma and Rhys from Melb which was great and later headed into Leischter??? Square for some drinks and dinner.

Have to run now as time is up but will update with photos soon. Mid term break at school this week so Ev starts next week as Mel hopes to.

Stay tuned for pics and more updates.
Love ya work.

Hey Mel and Ev
Sounds like you guys are having a terrific time, I'll bet the change in temperature is a bit of a shock to the system!! Got your text Ev, so it's good to know we can get in touch that way if need be. What's going on with you hitting someone in the face with the footy? I've seen your kicking- in a word, deadly. (I didn't say anything about Bell Park!)
Anyway, have fun settling in. I think you should mention the Ashes as much as possible, we're gonna walk it in!

Take care guys.

Hey Matt, should have known you would be first to comment on my kicking. Only hit her because I was aiming for her of course.
Yeah having a great time and the change in weather I think is having its effect on both of us - but we'll get use to it. Have been looking into flights to Bangers in Jan so hope to get onto that soon.
Hope plans are going well - not long now.
Speak soon.

Hi Melvan's in London, hope you are both well and enjoying the big bright lights!

Blog updates are great, looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts and seeing some snaps! Mel, hows the guts? We caught up with Baz on the weekend, good tan...hope yours is not washing down the plughole although knowing that skanky London water I am thinking it is.

Dont believe a word of Carls blog entry...I didnt win the parra cup. I was denied from Lamby's but it wasnt my fault. Will send through some photos with proof. Bed time now, will call you soon.

Take care and beware of the snivelling poms.

Love Brooke

ps. Maurs and Col say hi...and Mel, you have made Col's Wall of Fame in the garage - we kept one of your netty photos. You know you have made it when you are up on the bricks!

Hi Carls, Dave, Brooke and Matt,

All I want to do in London at the moment is shop!!!! I had a little taste of Oxford Street the second day we were here but I had Ben & Ev with me who weren't interested in going into every store.

Bought a very cool red jacket which I love and need as it is starting to get a tad cool here!!!

I can't bring myself to drink the beer but I have a fondness for the Magners Cider. It's great and goes down very quickly. Evan is addicted to the Wetherspoon 2 for 1 meal deal so for the past 2 days we've had lunch there. Once in Trafalgar Square and today at Hammersmith.

So far we've not manage to get the Heathrow injection, I hope that trend continues!!! Just been running as we can't join the great gym 2 minutes walk from our place until our cards arrive from the bank. You need to be a member to use it!

Meags and Ben are great to live with - very easy going, never a dull moment with Ben's jokes. Our apartment is great too.

Look forward to seeing some pics from the netty trip. Ev and I went out and about yesterday visiting the sights and have a funny pic for you all of someone we ran into!!! We really felt like we were in London yesterday visiting Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and all the other main attractions.

Great to hear from you all. Speak soo,

Love Melxxx
